In the 1920s Annie Malone was one of the nation's wealthiest African Americans. In 1917, she opened the 1st U.S. educational institution dedicated to Black cosmetology, Poro College. Annie Malone’s legacy is one of donating money, creating her own empire, providing jobs, and spotlighting causes for those in the Black community.
